My smallest Kinder, Lydia told me yesterday that she was finally getting bigger and wanted to know if I had noticed. Of course, I said I did. She said , That's good because I ate some seeds and now I am growing!"

I had to use the Hiemlich maneuver (sp) for the first time! I never thot that I would have to do this in all my years as a teacher. A little girl came into my classroom from another class who was playing on our playground. I saw that she was struggling to breathe, then she grabbed her throat. Then she was turning blue! For a spit second, which seemed like an eternity, I was thinking..."OMG, I need to get help"! Then I realized that I was that help! I put my arms around her with my fists under her chest, and pushed in, and guess what? It works! I hugged her and we both shed some tears. My awesome 1st graders were watching and said not one word. When I turned they all started cheering and shouting,"Ms. King is a hero"! LOL! I didn't think they even knew what was really happening!
So, amidst a huge family struggle this Thanksgiving, and alot of sadness, I am thankful for life, health and that I was able to help this little girl. I don't even know her name. Remember what is important this Thanksgiving ! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
