Happy Sunday?
9/2/07 4 CommentsMy sister called this morning to wake me up. Now normally this might make me cranky but she had some nice news. Her husband received a bonus from work and they want to fly me out to visit. This is so cool because I haven't seen my nephews since xmas. Anyway, I am really thrilled to get out of the heat here too. I know everyone keeps telling me I will adjust to the heat here but I still think it is freaking hot!
Anyway September 21st I get to head to Seattle Washington. Woo hoo!
Other than that I caught up on the last five episodes of Ugly Betty. How was your guys' weekend?

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
9/1/07 4 CommentsWell my first week of school went okay. I have a pretty nice class and we got started on science and social studies right away. We did a science experiment yesterday (Friday) and they did a great job. We are studying about the wetlands in Louisiana. Anyway in Social Studies I have the kids doing a simulation of a 16 day road trip across the USA. They have to budget and pretend they are working for a travel magazine and do assignment related to special points of interest they stop at along the way. They are stuck in planning how far they can go in a day though....they aren't aloud to drive more than 480 miles a day and they have to use a road atlas and scale to check they aren't driving to far. I am hoping to finish planning the road trips on Tuesday so we can begin the simulation.
As for other things.......the air conditioning has been out in half of my wings classrooms. The poor kids are sitting in hot classrooms. I am lucky and my air conditioning didn't go out but the heat from the non air conditioned rooms is seeping into my room and making it hot.

a crazy night
8/24/07 5 CommentsWell, I need to apologize for going awol again. I meant to blog on my whole 8 days of break but wound up being tired and busy all at the same time. I tried to get a friends cold so I kept dozing off on the couch whenever I sat down to relax. I am glad I didn't actually get the cold, but fighting it off sure impacted my being awake. Anyway, I did do some fun things on break. I saw a hypnotism comedy show at the Planet Hollywood for free. I also hung out with some friends. I even went into work a few times (which is so lame when I only had 8 days off work, I guess I am a glutton for punishment).
We went back to work (officially) on Wednesday and only got 2 hours to work in our rooms to set up the room, change the bulletin boards, set up the kids desks and supplies for the year, rearrange furniture and write lesson plans for this coming Monday. Yesterday and today we were in meetings all day long. I am exhausted from putting in so much overtime and I have to go in a bunch this weekend as I still have a lot to do. Sigh.....(sorry about the grumping) moving on now :)
The good news.....the radio station 94.1 the Mix (here in Vegas) decided to throw a party for the teachers here. They gave away gift cards for the teacher supply store ( I got $20) and then they did a bunch of drawings for other cool prizes. One of the people in my party won the private concert with James Blunt and wanted me to go along. So......I saw James Blunt sing three songs live in a very small room about the size of a large living room. I can't believe how up close and personal we were. Afterwards we got an autographed picture and they served us margaritas and appetizers. It was pretty sweet. We then went back to the teacher party for the rest of the drawings and I was back in the party for five minutes or less when my number was called and I won 2 concert tickets to a show of my choice at the Mandalay Bay. Pretty crazy huh? I can't believe what good luck I have sometimes :)
I miss hearing from everyone.....I hope you guys post comments so I can see how you guys are doing :)
