My dad
March 4, 2007Well, I just got back from visiting my dad at the hospital. Its a slight case of pnuemonia plus some kind of infection the drs don't know what caused it or where it came from or anything. I'm really worried.
See, the past few days he has been fighting back a cold and yesterday, when I got back from my daughters Ice Skating lessons, my step sister was getting ready to take him to the emegency room because he was having a hard time breathing. Well, that didn't happen and we ended calling the ambulance instead.
This is so hard for me because in the past month or so I have really gotten close to my step dad, my dad, because I have been taking care of him ever since he got out of the hosptal from having knee replacement surgery in January. I have been taking him 3x a week to his physical therapy appointments and 2x a week I have been taking him to his regular dr's appointments at the VA hospital sitting there with him for hours at a time.
I actually liked going to the VA Hosp. b/c I got to meet some of the most interesting men & women who fought for our country at one point or another. Sometimes all an older person wants is to see a friendly face and a nice smile and not be concidered a number for one moment in a place like that.
That is why I enjoyed spending time with my dad during those visits. He really needed someone to talk to while waiting or a hand to hold. Something to let him know he wasn't alone. That I was there if he needed anything.
I couldn't stand to see him in that ICU room tonight. He looked so helpless. I wanted to hold his hand all night and tell him it was going to be ok, but I couldn't because I don't know.
