I did everything for her. I stood by her through the hardest of times and the best of times. I was her sister. She meant the world to me. I stood up for her. I fought for her. I went to detention during the last week of my senior year in high school because I defended her honor. I drove to her house in the middle of the night to sit with her and let her cry on my shoulder and held her close and told her everything was okay. I did more for her than I have ever done for any other person on this planet. And yet, despite it all, she treated me like crap I don’t care if you love everyone in my life, and I don’t care if you hate one person in my life or most of them, but don’t disrespect ANYONE that I love, and for sure don’t disrespect me. I was stepped on, spoken down to, called names, yelled at, cursed at, and yet I’m standing tall. Because I know the truth. I know who I am and I know who is truly my friend. A true friend would love me no matter what. A true friend would accept me for who I am. A true friend wouldn’t care who I love or who I don’t love. A true friend would know that no relationship could EVER break us up. A true friend would stand by me no matter what came our way. A true friend would support me in every aspect of my life. A true friend would return my kindness, love, and affection. I thought she was a true friend. But I guess I was wrong. And you know what, I’m okay. I know who my true friends are and that’s what matters here. In the words of Jimmy Buffett, I’m just gonna “breathe in, breathe out, move on”.
