March 23, 2008I know there aren’t many conservatives on this site, but I’m gonna say something anyway!
This is my last year of high school, and I took government last semester (generally I prefer actual history, but I like any kind of social science.) My teacher still has us do an election scrapbook so we can keep up with the race, and I’ve had my heart broken a time or two along the way. Since I turned eighteen in September, I got to vote on Super Tuesday here in Alabama. My first choice was Fred Thompson. Now I’m certainly not the most politically minded person. My teacher always tells us “vote for the person not the party,” and I liked the guy just because I liked his style, his demeanor. He seemed like someone I’d actually like to see get up onto a stage and make a speech. (I support Bush, but it’s not an easy thing to do.) But then came Mike Huckabee. I still think he was the very best choice. He was honest, and didn’t do much mud-slinging, which you see all too much of now. He really impressed me with his “stick with it” attitude. I thought he could go the distance. I wanted to see him win. But I regrettably accept that he never had a chance. And it made me so mad when Mitt Romney gave McCain his delegates. If he was a real conservative, he would have given them to Huckabee, or so my friend Ethan put it. I’m supporting John McCain now, only because I don’t like Hilary and I can’t make any sense out of what Obama says. I wish that I didn’t have to pick the lesser of two…well, three evils, but even though that’s my choice, I feel like I have no choice.
