War

March 29, 2008

A short blog about war.

War is cruel, the crueler it is the sooner it will be over, a paraphrase from General William Tecumseh Sherman, a true warrior. Terrible things happen in war, but it’s a necessary evil sometimes. Without the efforts of the Allies in WWII, God only knows what would have happened in Germany and all of the other places Hitler occupied. But war also means death, for warriors and civilians. I wish the war would stop, but I don’t want us to pull out, I want us to win! I want it to be over and that we, the United States of America could stand victorious over those that would do us harm. What would that be like? Maybe a new patriotic spirit would come over us. The thousands of people that die in the Middle East could rest in peace knowing that their efforts helped end the suffering. Yet at the same time, I find myself caught between my desire for us to win, and my spirit of peace. I like Edwin Starr’s “War” song, but I’m not sorry we were in Vietnam, I’m sorry that we couldn’t have peace then now, or perhaps not even in the future.

Hey Knight, you got me going, OK, it is a Civil War, we are in the middle of it, there is no winning. I believe we should do what Donald Trump (a very smart man) said: “Declare victory and get the hell out.” All we have done is made ourselves (our troops) available to be killed (4,000) so far, and how many Iraqi’s? Over 50,000 dead. What a mess. It was a wrong war to begin with, on false premises, there were no weapons of mass destruction, the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, not Iraq, not a single one. OK, you got me going…..Oh Well, Jesus will come and establish peace, eventually, but I am angry about the whole scene. Jess
